چکیده

Liquid He is a model system for strongly correlated Fermi liquids. For this reason, many X-ray and neutron scattering experiments have been performed to understand the structure and dynamics of this quantum fluid. We have recently shown that two-dimensional liquid He sustains long-lived zero-sound excitations at large wave-vectors (Nature 483, 576, 2012). Here we show that its static structure factor can be obtained with reasonable accuracy by integrating the experimental S(Q,ω) over a suitable energy range. A good agreement is found between the static structure factor deduced from the experiment and theoretical models: Quantum Monte Carlo simulations and Dynamical Many Body Theory (DMBT). At high wave-vectors, the experimental values are underestimated because of the limited accessible phase space; nevertheless, even at atomic wave-vectors a semiquantitative agreement is observed with the theoretical predictions.

Magnetization curve of second layer antiferromagnetic solid 3He on graphite in high magnetic fields

Two dimensional anti-ferromagnetic solid He adsorbed on graphite, so called 4/7 phase, is a strongly frustrated quantum spin system and the ground state is considered to be a gapless spin liquid. To clarify the magnetic behavior, the magnetization curve has been investigated below 1 mK in high magnetic fields, using NMR over the wide frequency region up to 360 MHz. The magnetization is found to...

Zero-temperature equation of state of two-dimensional 3He.

The equation of state of two-dimensional 3He at zero temperature has been calculated using the diffusion Monte Carlo method. By means of a combination of the fixed-node and released-node techniques, it is shown that backflow correlations provide a very accurate equation of state. The results prove unambiguously the non-self-bound character of two-dimensional 3He due to its Fermi statistics. We ...

Evidence for a Mott-Hubbard transition in a two-dimensional 3He fluid monolayer.

The heat capacity and magnetization of a fluid 3He monolayer adsorbed on graphite plated with a bilayer of HD have been measured in the temperature range 1-60 mK. Approaching the density at which the monolayer solidifies into a sqrt[7]xsqrt[7] commensurate solid, we observe an apparent divergence of the effective mass and magnetization corresponding to a T=0 Mott-Hubbard transition between a 2D...

Mobility measurements of two kinds of two-dimensional fluids. Methane adsorbed on graphite

2014 The diffusion coefficient of a CH4 submonolayer adsorbed on (0001) graphite is measured as a function of coverage and temperature by quasi-elastic neutron scattering. The experimental data permit us to clearly distinguish two kinds of adsorbed fluids, i.e. a 2D liquid coexisting with a 2D gas and a 2D hypercritical fluid whose density varies continuously with coverage. The mobility disappe...

Multiple-Spin Exchange on a Triangular Lattice: A Quantitative Interpretation of Thermodynamic Properties of Two-Dimensional Solid

We apply exact high-temperature series expansions of the multiple-spin-exchange Hamiltonian for a triangular lattice to describe high precision NMR measurements of the nuclear magnetic susceptibility of 3He films adsorbed on graphite, reported here, as well as all available specific heat data. A consistent quantitative description of the unusual thermodynamic properties of the second layer soli...
